Does business stationery still have a place in the office?

Stationery remains relevant even in a digital world for several reasons. One of which is that certain documents need a more formal approach, such as legal documents and contracts that require traditional printed business stationery.

Business stationery can also say a lot about a company’s professionalism and legitimacy, which helps to build trust and relationships. Not everyone feels comfortable corresponding online, especially when it comes to matters that include important and personal information. Some businesses prefer to keep a tangible copy of documents to preserve for future records and evidence.

There is also something good about receiving a printed letter and the feel of the paper that it is printed on, even if it is an invoice!

A unique advantage over competitors.

Even though online and the number of digital communication methods grow, stationery gives a business a more personalised way of communicating with its clients, suppliers and investors.

Stationery can support your brand image when designed well and printed on good-quality paper it gives a good impression.

Digital fatigue.

During the pandemic, everyone experienced digital fatigue so turned to more tangible things like stationery to correspond with.

Taymoor Atigethchi, the founder of Paper, notes in an interview with Forbes that the trend towards analogue has been gathering pace for a while and is now accelerating and becoming quite mainstream. He sees that younger consumers are looking to limit the amount of digital they consume.

Even in this digital world where businesses are striving for a paperless office, stationery remains. Pens and pencils are still very much present in all offices whilst people enjoy the physical activity of notetaking and doodling. Taking notes during meetings and telephone calls means that there is a written record of what was said with actions to look back to. Sending or leaving a written note to a colleague instead of relying on email is met with gratitude.

These are our five additional reasons why we think business stationery is here to stay:

  1. A reminder of who you are. Now that events are back in full swing, handing over a business card remains one of the top ways of reminding someone who you are and how to get in touch with you.
  2. Weighing up whether an investment in technology or sticking with traditional stationery is the most cost-effective decision.
  3. Sending a personal letter or invoice printed on heavyweight paper that is addressed to the recipient maintains your brand reputation with your client.
  4. Online meets offline delivery. An online company still needs to deliver a product; therefore a delivery address needs to be printed, an invoice created and a delivery note included.
  5. Do we all completely trust the digital world? With cyber security a hot topic, many documents are still required to be printed and filed as evidence and backup, which prevents a loss of data due to hacking, power outages, server issues, cyber-attacks, and viruses.

Move over digital, business stationery is here to stay. Even with the growth of digital communications, people still rely on and enjoy printed correspondence. Invest in a good stock of paper to print onto and ensure your branding is consistent across both digital and offline stationery to create a good and lasting brand impression.
